Our story began in 1975, when the mountains of Nepal inspired our first trek. Since then, we've pioneered many adventure travel firsts, all driven by our goal to provide active and adventurous travellers with BIG adventures that leave a small footprint on the people and places we visit. In Australia and New Zealand World Expeditions have 4 divisions - Australian Walking Holidays, Tasmanian Expeditions, the Blue Mountains Adventure Company and Adventure South. Our divisions operate all over the region and are always seeking passionate and enthusiastic guides to join our team.

World Expeditions pioneered trekking on Central Australia's Larapinta Trail, we were the first to operate Larapinta Treks in 1995 and have been the market leader ever since. Our very own Classic Larapinta trip is listed as one of the seven Great Walks of Australia and has won the NT Brolga Award for Ecotourism 4 times: 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2024, as well as the NT Brolga in Adventure Tourism in 2022, 2023, and 2024. We also have a thriving Top End program and an expanding South Australian and Western Australian package. We believe travel is about embracing the nature, culture, and people of each destination, which is why we strive to create unique and innovative adventures that give travellers an immersive experience in a destination, with minimal impact to the environment.

We are currently seeking applications for our guide intake to the Australian Walking Holidays team for the coming trekking season. The role is based in Alice Springs or Darwin from March – October. Successful applicants could find themselves working the Larapinta Trail, Kings Canyon, Kakadu, Litchfield, Karijini, Ningaloo, the Bibbulmun Trail, the Jatbula Trail, the Heysen Trail and Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, Bungle Bungles, Wild South Coast Way or Uluru-Kata Tjuta. Successful applicants may also be eligible for financial assistance if required to relocate. Limited opportunities are open for successful applicants to access additional training funding under the NT Tour Guide Ready Program. Secure your spot now!

Applicants must have a strong background in wilderness tour leading and/or outdoor education.

Applicants must have or be willing to obtain;

  • Guiding or Outdoors Qualification (Cert IV is highly beneficial)
  • Remote Area or Wilderness First Aid
  • Minimum Light Rigid Manual Driver's License / Preference for Medium Rigid
  • Public Passenger Accreditation (or National Police Check)

We are looking for guides who:

  • Have extensive hiking/trekking experience
  • Have a Working with Children Check (WWVC)
  • Proactively ensure the smooth running of trips
  • Are confident driving a 4wd or coaster bus
  • Are confident cooking and catering
  • Are confident with public speaking and socialising with guests

The work is seasonal from March to October. There is also the opportunity to go on to year-round guiding work with our other divisions.

Recruitment process for guides

1.

Application

The recruitment manager will assess your application and respond as to whether you have been successful for the next round.

2.

Questionnaire

There will be an informal meet and greet style chat to discuss your qualifications and availability.

3.

Formal interviews

1 - 1.5 hour interview with management. The final interview will be with the regional operations team.

4.

Employment Offer

Successful applicants are provided with documentation and are invited to a guide induction.

    'I am an Australian high-altitude mountaineer, having completed over 60 expeditions in the last 25 years. For over 20 years I have worked closely with World Expeditions developing and guiding our more challenging treks and climbs in Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Central Asia and South America.

    'I love working as part of a team while at the same time being self-sufficient, it is very rewarding. Bottom line is I just love being in the mountains. My most memorable mountaineering expeditions would have to be Everest in 2011, but my first ascent of Ama Dablam in 2004 with my Nepali climbing partner Dhana Rai is a close second.

    In 2020, when international borders closed I set my sights on adventures closer to home. I have continued working for World Expeditions as a canyoning guide with Blue Mountains Adventure Company and a trekking guide on the Larapinta for Australian Walking Holidays.

    It has been very rewarding to be given the opportunity to learn about our domestic trips and work with our amazing domestic crew. Soon I hope to be leading some expeditions with World Expeditions in Tasmania.'
