Wilderness Guides – 2022 trekking season | Australian Walking Holidays 

We are currently seeking applications for our guide intake to join the Australian Walking Holidays team for the 2022 trekking season. The role is based in Alice Springs, Darwin or Adelaide from March to October 2022.

We pioneered trekking on Central Australia's Larapinta Trail, being the first to operate commercial treks on the trail in 1995 and have been the market leader ever since. Our very own Classic Larapinta trip is listed as one of the seven Great Walks of Australia and has won the NT Brolga Award for Ecotourism three times in 2016, 2017 and 2019. We also have a thriving Top End program and an expanding South Australian package.

Successful applicants could find themselves working The Larapinta Trail, Kings Canyon, Kakadu, The Jatbula Trail, The Heysen Trail and Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail or Uluru-Kata Tjuta.

Successful applicants may also be eligible for financial assistance if required to relocate.

Applicants must have a strong background in wilderness tour leading and/or outdoor education.

Applicants must have or be willing to obtain:

  • Guiding or outdoors qualification (Cert IV is highly beneficial)
  • Remote Area or Wilderness First Aid
  • Light rigid driver's license
  • Public Passenger Accreditation (or National Police Check)
  • Tour guide accreditation (Kakadu and Uluru-Kata Tjuta trips only)
  • Be fully vaccinated

We are looking for guides who:

  • Have extensive hiking/trekking experience
  • Have a Working with Children Check (WWVC)
  • Proactively ensure the smooth running of trips
  • Are confident driving a 4wd or coaster bus
  • Are confident cooking and catering
  • Are confident with public speaking and socialising with guests

The work is seasonal from March to October.

There is also the opportunity to go on to year-round guiding work with our other divisions.
