People & Culture

People at the heart of every adventure

In our style of travel, people are at the heart of everything. They are the reason each journey is so enriching. From the local guides who offer cultural depth, to the behind-the-scenes teams who deliver safety and creativity, and the travellers who bring openness and purpose, it’s the human connection that turns an adventure into something truly meaningful.

Their insight, care and commitment shape experiences that are responsible, distinctive and lasting. That’s why we’re dedicated to supporting the wellbeing and growth of everyone in our ecosystem - from staff and local partners to the communities we visit and the travellers we guide.

Cultural Respect & Partnership

  • We respect the cultural traditions, stories and sovereignty of the communities we travel through.
  • We practise culturally appropriate acknowledgement of the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we travel.
  • We partner with First Nations–led businesses to incorporate authentic experiences respectfully.
  • We listen first, ensuring that community voices shape how stories are shared and experiences are designed.
  • We value long-term relationships with cultural custodians.
  • We use First Nations place names alongside colonial place names in written and oral communications.
  • We train guides and staff to communicate cultural significance with accuracy and respect.

Cultural Respect & Partnership in Action

In Australia, our deep respect for the First Nations peoples of the lands on which we live, work and travel is reflected in our Reconciliation Action Plan.

We are proud to partner with Traditional Owners to develop guided nature walks and cultural tourism experiences on the Ngaro Track in Queensland’s Whitsundays. Through respectful consultation, this collaboration reflects Ngaro perspectives and connection to Country, while creating training and employment pathways for local First Nations people and supporting our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

In New Zealand, inbound travellers are invited to complete The Visitor Promise, a short learning module designed to deepen cultural understanding and encourage respectful engagement with Maori values such as manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga.

Community Empowerment

  • We design trips that channel economic benefit back into the hands of local communities.
  • We prioritise local guides, porters, cooks, hosts and service providers.
  • We prioritise locally owned accommodation and services.
  • We support community-led projects through the World Expeditions Foundation.
  • We invest in initiatives that strengthen community resilience.

Our Eco-Comfort Camps provide shelter for walking groups while also supporting inclusive economic development, cultural preservation and environmental protection for local communities.

The World Expeditions Foundation has also supported community-led projects that empower marginalised groups such as women and children.

Advancing Human Rights

  • Zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment or exploitation.
  • Promotion of gender equity, including pathways for women in guiding roles.
  • Active support for women-led businesses and women-focused projects.
  • Embedding fairness, representation and respect into every journey we create.
